1). In the picture I can see two people. One of them is a women, who it seems to me is "the poor". She needs a good lawyer because she will have a trial in the Court (a good defender is her only hope). She probably doesn't have money to rent a private lawyer, therefore she has to use a public defender. The laywer appears to be happy because he gets a new customer. He is wearing an old barrel, in addition with some kinds of advertisments. 2). The men in the barrel is a symbol of shape a public defenders. He have to keep announcements, because "the public lawyer" must be so "good" that he even can't persist himself from work as a lawyer. On the contrary stand women who has only chance to defend uses public lawyer skills. Moreover she asks herself "Did Perry Mason ever wear a barrel into court ?" The famous lawyer was able to earn for life with the cases, he never has to wear sth else than suit. 3). The lawyer assures his new client that he is a " excellent lawyer". He tells her that everyhing is under control. He excuses himself that clothes which he is wearing are result of a few budget cutbacks in the public defender's office.
The defender complains about suffering on the few budget, but he also assures woman that she will have a competent representation. 4). According to proverb "beauty is only a skinny deep" we could say that, by analogue - no matter how somebody describes us - much more important is how much we are effective. However barrel isn't suitable for lawyer, and it provides that his finances shape is very weak. Similarly we can suppose that the women has no idea about the law, and everything that her defender will tell her she will accept. It seems to me that defeat C.E.Gideon in his trial was as a consequence of first of all - unacquaintance with the law. However it seems to me that if Gideon had a lawyer, who blatantly doesn't know system of common law he would have another defeat. As a result in this cartoon we can see a sad, but unfortunately true fact, if don't take care about our "interest" no one will do this for ourself.
